I didn't know that apple juice is bad for kidney stones. I used to have kidney stones and gallstones at the same tie, I naturally treated my gallstones by drinking a lot of apple juice and lemon juice. I did not know that it has a bad reaction to my kidney stones.

And it's also surprising how often kidney stone sufferers resort to cranberry concentrate which actually may increase the risk.

My dad supposedly got rid of his gallstones by downing a glass of olive oil. But, I've heard there was more to it than that, (epsom salts?), so, I'll see if he remembers what he did besides the oil. I mean, I'd down a jug of that stuff and then some than to be cut in to. Hopefully my bladder doesn't have the GALL for producing stones. A kidney stone made my mom beg for death when she passed one. I guess I have something to look forward to there IF the water doesn't flush.

          This is crap. Sorry.

Don't want kidney stones? Cut your calcium intake to your bare minimum needed. Avoid broccoli/cauliflower.

No problem avoiding broccoli and cauliflower; done that all my life and still got stones twice. Bare minimum is a pretty sloshy number. As one gets older, one needs more calcium to avoid bones breaking like matchsticks. As was explained to me, a balance is needed that will both insure good bones and not generate stones.

You've hit on a very sore subject for me. I've had kidney stones three times and they are indeed extremely painful. I've tried everything including avoiding anything with calcium, tried various diets recommended by some health guru or another and nothing seems to work. Ah well, I'll try these suggestions and see what happens. By my kidney stone history, the fourth affliction should happen within two years.

mackie -- I'm with you. The first time I didn't know what they were. The second time I knew exactly--no other pain could be like that. The doc gave me a special diet, which I mostly adhere to--major deviation is probably too much peanut butter. The one thing he told me that you didn't touch on--eight glasses of water a day. If I drank that much, I'd probably float away. But I do manage to get about halfway there.
