Of course ther is really very little bromelain in pineapple fruit as compared to pineapple stems, which are used for producing bromelain.

I go to the grocery store and pick out a whole pineapple by smelling them. they should smell like what you would imagine them tasting...
when the fruit is ripened, I slice the top part about an inch down and then I plant it in the ground. my apartment building is surrounded with pineapple plants.
i feel we could all benefit by growing our own food. Or supporting local (organic) farmers.
