I used to drink milk when I was a teenager and had acne. I join the Navy after High School. I didn't drink much milk and after a few years my acne disappeared. I don't know if the Navy diet did the trick or it was less milk I was drinking.

Milk is pretty disgusting these days anyhow. Especially if you're not buying organic. Frankly I don't want to be drinking bovine growth hormone on a daily or even weekly basis. Bleh.

This is pretty bogus. There is a correlation between drinking skim milk and acne, but not so much 2% or whole milk, or other dairy products? It seems likely to me that some other factor common to those who drink skim milk (why? YUCK-blue milk!) is likely to be the culprit, since other milk products contain the same stuff as skim milk. Since childhood I have had a 14 oz glass of milk every morning, and up to age 18 I had the same with every meal, and no acne.

Milk contains fat, I think it should effect the acne.

The correlation with fat content is poor, so the fat is unlikely to be the important component. Also, skim milk appears to be a greater contributor to acne than whole milk.

The authors of the study suggest that "hormones and bioactive molecules" in milk may be important, but offer no data to support this supposition.

So now it is milk that is the cause of acne.

In the 1940's it was chocolate. I ate no chocolate for years

            but still had acne.

Check out the milk cause. Don't drink it and see if your acne

goes away. If it doesn't, try something else.

There has never been much scientific support for a relationship between chocolate and acne. This is more of an old wives tale.

To quackpot: The no chocolate was the idea of my dermatologist, not an old wife.

Is milk an old wives tale also????

                jayne,

As far as the chocolate is concerned, you might take a look at the reference that I provided.

As far as the milk is concerned, there have been several studies showing a correlation between eating dairy products (not just milk) and acne:

--Reports based on the large scale Nurses Health Study

--A fairly large study showing such a correlation in adolescent girls

--A fairly large study showing such a correlation in adolescent boys

These reports have been published in high quality medical journals, and several have been done by a group at Harvard Public Health.

Milk is straight up bad for you anyways. Everyone thinks it's good for you but if you drink 2 glasses of milk a day, you increase your chances of getting many cancers/diseases...especially prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women (more then 30% increase chance). Why does it cause this? Because it makes your stomach acid more acidic. If you look into the affects of low PH in your stomach, you'll find that you are more susceptible to disease and cancers.

Everyone thinks it's good for your bones...it's actually quite bad. It contains phosphorus and if you know anything about phosphorus, it leaks the calcium from your bones. On top of that, the chemicals they put in and the bacteria that remains in it keeps your body from uptaking any nutrients from the milk so there is no nutritional value to it.

Milk does not cause acne. I drink 2 ounces a day and I have no acne.

Milk does not cause acne, however, the fat in milk (and chocalooate) do tend to cause acne - in some more than in others. I did not have problems with milk and acne, but both of my children did.
