Sadly, people have been suffering from the effects of diacetyl for almost 10 years now.
Here's an article I read way back in 2002. Microwave popcorn factory workers were falling ill, but no one knew the exact cause back then.

I like Orville Redenbacher's because they don't use diacetyl at all. I don't eat microwave popcorn anymore. I gone back to making it the old fashion way.

If you want to caugh your lungs out, take a sniff of burning micro-waved popcorn. It's almost like inhaling burning poison ivy smoke.

'A chemical used to give butter flavor to popcorn can damage the lungs and airways of mice,'
Then there should be a warning on the package for mice that eating this popcorn may be harmful to their health. But seriously, this is interesting to know and I will tell my grandkids about it as they like their bucket of Blockbuster popcorn while watching a movie.

OF COURSE WHEN THEY DO THESE STUDIES, THEY GIVE THE RATS ONE HUNDRED TIMES THE AMOUNT IN THE POPCORN BAG..THEY DID NOT MENTION THAT DID THEY???
AS ALWAYS THESE THINGS REALLY MEAN--SOMEONE WANTS TO STIFLE THE SALE OF POPCORN, OR SELL SOME THAT DOES NOT HAVE THE "BUTTERY" FLAVOR...
ITS HARD TO TAKE THESE THINGS AT FACE VALUE---IN OTHER WORDS...THEY LIE----OUR POLITICIANS DO NOT SAY ANYTHING WHEN SOME ONE LIES...ACCORDING TO THEM IT IS OK TO LIE, THEY DO IT EVERY DAY...

Good point, it does seem to be more of a problem for the popcorn workers than for the popcorn eaters.
But, on the other hand, diacetyl butter flavor is hardly a necessity of modern life so the burden of proof should be on the manufacturer to show that it is safe, rather than on the people to show that it is dangerous.
Please loose the caps.
