Excellent article, good post, and thank you for inviting me to the discussion.
I actually did a college paper a few years ago on the medicinal uses of marijuana. It disgusts me that the government still has this useful "plant" listed as a Schedule I drug. The benefits of marijuana have been proven many times and government commissioned medical studies has borne this out.
Sec. 812. Schedules of controlled substances
(1) Schedule I. -
(A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
(B) The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
(C) There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.

What disturbs me even more is that there has never been a recorded case of cancer from smoking marijuana nor has there been a recorded case of death from marijuana use in the U.S.

In all fairness,democrats are just as bad about the stonewalling.
Bill Clinton had all the evidence he needed to support the medical use but continued with the "no medical value" line.
The DEA was forced by a federal court in 1988 to reexamine the scheduling of marijuana.Judge Francis Young of the DEA produced this finding of FACT and recommended rescheduling...
"the record shows the following facts to be uncontroverted..."
"In it's natural form,marijuana is one of the safest theraputically active substances known to man.By any measure of rational analysis,marijuana can be safely used within a supervised routine of medical care."
There is NO question that marijuana has medical value.

Did you see Hillary's response in the debate when asked if marijuana should be decriminalized?Her cackle of disgust at the question absolutely did it for me as far as her candidacy.She is a worthless closed minded politician and will never get my vote,she is as bad as any republican on this subject.

Marijuana has been used for medicine for thousands of years.Recent studies have found it to be helpful with everything from Alzhiemers to pain relief to Mad Cow disease...now if somebody would just tell the politicians!

Sooooo many excellent properties to this drug! Natural and unrefined, straight from Mother Earth. Politicians can't figure out a way to make a billion dollars off of it because it grows wild, so they outlaw it! Such a miscarriage of justice.
They need to watch The Learning Channel and Discovery every now and then, they could learn a lot about Marijuanna!

I'm on a doctor's prescription of a small shot of plum brandy daily, before breakfast..
Here beer is also accorded tonic value as well as being of the highest quality and a national passion, marihuana is pretty much ignored by the authorities and mushrooms are as close as we come to having a national religion.
Psilocybin varieties are widespread and are considered as the stimulus of some beatified visions which are recognised by the Church which otherwise plays a minor role in national life.

It sure is hard getting a truthful answer when it comes to the pro and con of this plant. It's like the Jesus Christ of drugs. Some people worship it as the greatest thing on the planet and, others view it as very harmful for one's mental out-look. I mean EVERYone seems to have an ax to grind, with passionate people on both sides of the issue. I've never tried it, so, I can't give any advice. Just an observer, getting conflicting data.

and thus the 'gateway' theory is given credence, but not because marijuana is addictive, harmful or leads to other substances, it is because the first time user tries it and then realizes that they've been lied to all their lives about it...and if they've been lied to about that, the surely they've been lied to about real drugs, you know, manufactured poisons like cocaine & heroin. Surely, since they were lied to about marijuana, they were lied to about those others, right? Hmmm, let's give it a try...
And that is the only way in which marijuana is a gateway substance...the revelation that all they have ever been told about it is a lie and thus what they've heard of everything else has to be a lie as well.

...my OPINION is...it's dead simple why politicians are against pot...the PharmaCorps cannot charge premium price for something that practically anyone can raise in a flowerpot...
IE there is no money in it, it is effective,safer than chemical drugs...the PharmaCorps has outlaid a LOT of cash to politicians to outlaw the 'wild-wood flower'...corruption 101, follow the money!!!
