Saw palmetto plants produce large reddish-black fruit that have been eaten by the Native Americans. Although the saw palmetto also produces fan palm leaves and flowers, it is the edible fruit that is used as an herbal remedy for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Some people have allergic reaction to this herb . I would recommend buying a lessor quantity to start out with to see your reaction . I've heard good things from some who've tried this herb .

Get a PSA and have a yearly rectal exam if you are a male over 40. It sucks but it is the best way to avoid the pain and misery of prostate trouble. That and stay away from chicken wings and vodka. That was the part of my diet the doctor blamed. I take a supplement that contains saw palmetto currently, and whether on not that is a factor, I am in perfect health again. Sadly these things are also hereditary. My dad had prostate cancer, which they cured by using, as he put it, "radioactive pellets up my b-tt". Whatever works!

  Right on.
  I have prostate cancer and had the radioactive pellets treatment with radiation therapy. It seems to have worked. After 5 years of the treatments my PSA is down to .08 from 10.8. I'm surviving :-)
  I never did get a enlarged prostate. I don't drink vodka but, I do like chickens winks or is that buffalo winks I eat?
  I never used to take supplements.
  Good luck with the supplement you are taking.
