So is this only for people who have the 'genetic' inability to stay small or is everyone going to jump on this and claim that their obesity is caused by this gene variant?

I believe the gene varient is called "Double Bacon Cheeseburger, and Super Size it!"

and yes, all the weak-willed fattys will jump all over this.

    This can't possibly be true.

What will all the personal injury attorneys who are lining up to sue McDonalds do? How will they pay for their Beemers?

And what will all the politicians who want more regulation of fast food and trans fat do now?

Please don't let reality spoil our plans to tranfer money from McDonalds to our pockets.

    Say it ain't so, Joe.

I think it's time people accept the fact that they are fat because of their lifestyle.

Absolutely! If it is a gene, as they say, then why weren't our ancestor's fat? Wouldn't it have been passed down from them? Talk about excuses! People NEED to start taking responsibility for themselves for being fat (ie. lack of exercise, eating too much crap, etc.) instead of putting the blame on something else.

Genes do play a major roll in a persons weight.

Emotional eating & habits are also a part.

Economics does play a large roll in weither a person becomes over weight. Since the healthy foods cost so much more money and require larger quanities in fresh veggies & fruit (spoils easy).

Compared to the easy to store, non-spoilage starchy foods (rice, potatoes, beans, etc) that are less expensive and stretch farther.

Maybe all the causes for these problems can be solved in the future.

i want to ask you folks why you are so hard-nosed about obese people and so determined to blame them for their condition?

you seem very unwilling to give them the benefit of the doubt and are very harsh in your judgement. i'm very curious why.

human biology and chemistry is very complex and we are just beginning to understand how our bodies work and how they interact with our social environment. we are only beginning to understand the power of genetics.

no one has ever explained how some thin folks thrive on twinkies & coke, never exercize and don't gain weight.

I did not mean to offend anyone! I hope that this is not how my comments were read or taken. This is only meant to help, hope for the future & to understand.

My sister was always very thin & tiny, while I have struggled all my life to keep my weight at a healthy level that I feel good weighing. Everyone thinks that I don't have a problem with my weight, because I am at a healthy size. That is far from the truth, I struggle every day and drink alot of water, eat small meals, work & stay busy.
