This explains why I'm the happiest person alive, the wife says as soon as i walk out the door I start getting filthy, but on a differnent note there is nothing like the smell that comes from the soil when it is freshly tilled, don't know what it is but it's great.

Incredible how all these Psychopathic Megalomaniacal Power Mongering Control Freaks are competing to become one of last INEPT RULERS of our rapidly declining Empire; meanwhile "ROME" burns...

Man, get a life. Getting dirty is about as rewarding as making a big sale. In 1998 I left the metroplex and moved into the country. I bought a rubber tired back hoe, a dump truck, a farm tractor with a disk, mower and planters. Later added a mid sized bull dozer and an excavator to go with my 101 acres and two creeks. I built my own 2 acre pond and have landscaped 70 acres. For the first 7 years, I was up an hour before day light and worked like double speed until 9:00 and then off to the home office. If it was a slow day, back on the equipment and having a happy time. Our property is a show place and will take your breath away with it's beauty. Every time people come over they are almost speechless. We have turned a bramble of undergrowth into a managed forest with large primary trees and second under story with about 200 trees per acre. You can see 300 yards through the woods. Turkey, deer, ducks, geese, beaver and otter are every where and we are all happy just looking.

I guess that explain why those filthy Europeans don't take bathes... they want to be healthy.... Or maybe its because they smell so bad that no one will get close enough to smell them and therefore close enought to sneeze on them that they are healthy.

I'm not sure I believe the "scientific" explanation given in the story - that it's related to a bacterium and/or serotonin - as opposed to the natural/spiritual explanation that working with the earth is soothing in its own right. But I do know that when I play in my organic vegetable garden it is VERY therapeutic no matter what mood I was in to begin with. I love the smell and feel of the soil and interacting with the plants (yes, I talk to my plants...:) Now the FDA/DEA will probably try to make possession of dirt illegal without a prescription.

Gardening adult's version of playing in the dirt. That's why I love it so much! Too sweet that it's relaxing and great exercise too!
