Health care is expected to account for $1 of every $5 spent in the United States in another decade. That means a rise in out-of-pocket expenses, such as the copays for medicine, from about $850 this year to about $1,400 in 2016, a 5.3 percent annual increase.

    thanks for the article, ochs.

Co-pay for medicine, is only a piece of the actual costs to the people. Add the medical, Co-pay for some people is as high as $3,300.00 a year, plus for medical procedures, etc., 10% of costs over a certain amount to be paid by insurance. (like an 2nd co-pay cost out of pocket.)

And some COBRA insurances offered to former employees at a cost of $1,200.00 a month in premium plus co-pays. (how many people can afford this amount of cost?)

A more complete (poll as many people as possible) study of the actual costs that Americans are experiencing, needs to be completed, to get the real picture of the state of healthcare affordability in the USA today.

According to NPR, we spend double on health care what 21 other nations with better life expectancies do. What does that say about our health care system?

        Exactly!

Take a good look at the conditions of the VA hospital & healthcare at Walter Reed Medical ctr., for soldiers & vets., wow...pretty sad!

This morning on Cspan, the British parliment was discussing their problems with their healthcare system. PM was saying that the waiting time to get healthcare services was now down to 2 to 3 week wait..."better"?

Of course. This trend will continue and possibly escalate as long as EMPLOYERS and GOVERNMENT are involved in health care.

It says that the people directly receiving the health care are not having to shop around for the most cost-efficient care. Once employers and government are out of the picture, it will be necessary to do just that. Health care providers will actually have to compete for customers, and prices will fall. The same principle holds true in most other aspects of our financial lives. Involvement of employers/government would inevitably increase the cost of auto insurance, housing, food, etc., etc., and on and on.
