The National Kidney Foundation of Florida will begin their walkathon this Sunday. Among the team captains, we have one of our own from Netscape. Here's the Scoop Du Jour from "Spadecallers Corner".

Thanks Spadecaller, for raising the profile of this event for the Netscape community.
Chronic Kidney Disease is a silent killer.
I hope that each of you who read this think seriously about donating your time, money (if you can spare it) and please please consuder becoming an organ donor.

  The very best of luck to both of you, I know Kidney Disease is a very tough thing to go through and the National Kidney Foundation is a very worthy organization to donate your time and money to. Like the American Cancer Society the bulk of its donations are raised through events just like these.
  I'd also like to note if you are unable to donate time or money to such a cause, most local Kidney Foundations take donations of just about anything (including cars) and use the proceeds to support the foundation.
  Of course, the biggest thing you could do is sign up to become an organ donor if you aren't already. Please consider it, National Donor Day is Feb. 14th

gordonbjoy: I found it easily, & that means anyone can do it, lol. Click on the second link and it will take you straight to the marc-ettes team. I then clicked on the name 'marc'....and the process for donating is simple from there.

Thanks, Spade - a deserving foundation, indeed. Deathray, my prayers and support go out to you. I know it is not the same as a degenerative kidney condition, but I have lived nearly all of my 49 years with only one kidney. It has placed some limits what I can do (i.e., no contact sports ...) but it really has not kept me from living a pretty full life. Please know that if you do lose one, life can continue. Godspeed, my friend.

Deathray, you have my support! let us know if there is anything we can do, such as register by name, location in case of a match to donate a kidney. What is the process to do something like that? If someone was a match, can they say they want you to have it?

  Information on donor programs is vailable through the Natioal Kidney Foundtion. Some programs pool organ donations, in the case of incompatible live donors, providng a match for two people, instead of just one. Live dontions are of course, gratefully accepted, providing your own health allows it.
  In Florida, you an regiter as an organ donor thrugh your DMV; it goes right on your driver's license.
